Two women caught up in a loop of striving to be perfect versus being themselves. They are seductive, funny and provoking with a hint of sarcasm. As a team, they confront the observer, wanting to connect and to be understood. But can they keep up with the image they have created for themselves?
Juxtapose is a performance that combines text and movement to give a social comment on how women have to maneuver between being not only intensely feminine, but also assertive and masculine at the same time. Balancing the duality of our inner emotions and how we portray ourselves according to outside expectations. Juxtapose is a comment on our need to mirror ourselves to others and to be understood and accepted, just the way we are.
“Cecilia Moisio and Erin Harty give new life to girl – power.” “The two performers are perfect for each other qua presence, physicality, personality and expressiveness.”
André Arends, „8 Weekly“ www.8Weekly.nl
“As a choreographer Cecilia Moisio is inimitable and in her own class... Juxtapose is simply a high quality performance and its performers strikingly talented.”
Maija–Liisa Westman, „Keksisuomalainen“(FI)
CECILIA MOISIO
Cecilia Moisio (Finland 1978) moved to the Netherlands in 1997 to study at the Theatreschool of Amsterdam. After graduating in 2001 she joined Dansgroep Krisztina de Châtel where she became one of the leading dancers. There she worked together with artists such as Marina Abramović and Armando and danced in works of Ann van den Broek (BE), Neel Verdoorn (NL), Sjoerd Vreugdenhil (NL), Mauricio de Oliveira (Brazil) and Compagnie Salia nï Seydou (Burkina Faso). In 2006 Cecilia became a free-lance dancer/choreographer and has since then performed as one of the main dancers for WArd/waRD - Ann van den Broek (BE) but also for Karin Post (NL), Dylan Newcomb (VS/NL), theatre group Stella Den Haag and Theatre Group Oostpool. She teaches, gives workshops.
In her own works Cecilia investigates the psychology of humans and puts this into perspective of different phenomenon within our society. Her works combine movement, text and performance as evenly strong elements to give a comment our social and behavioral patterns. She wants to discuss problems of our times through themes of prejudice, wanting to be accepted, the need to be loved and loneliness.
